ICONS for Annotations These will be introduced as we use them. Please draw the Icon next to the definition.

Language of the Discipline Use this symbol when you are using language of the discipline -- specific vocabulary used in a particular discipline: English, Math, History, Science. In English an example of this would be exposition and resolution.

Multiple Perspectives Use this symbol whenever you are annotating for the perspective of the author or the character. This is one of the most used ICONS in this class.

Change Over Time Use this symbol when you are annotating for an idea or behavior that changes over time. This ICON is used many times because studying change as it relates to cause and effect is a large part of this class.

In Your Pods Work through the first page of the article again to practice the using the three ICONS. Your group has 8 minutes.

Reflection. Complete the following: How can these strategies help you while reading an article/novel? Are there other ways to annotate, and if so, what do you do?
