Conflict- the outsiders

What is conflict? Conflict is the dramatic struggle between two forces in a story. The main character wants something and is being prevented from getting it! Makes the story INTERESTING

Conflict Cont.… Without conflict, there is no plot. Conflict drives the plot!!!

Well, how do I figure out what the conflict is?? Easy! Try a conflict statement A sentence that briefly states what the main character wants and what is preventing him/her from attaining that desire. Example: Cinderella wants to go to the ball, BUT her wicked stepmother won’t let her go.

So, who is involved? Protagonist- main character who has the conflict Antagonist- who or what the protagonist is struggling against

Internal vs. External What is the difference?

Internal External Character vs. Self Character vs. Character A struggle that takes place in a character's mind is called internal conflict. Character vs. Character Character vs. Society Character vs. Supernatural Character vs. Nature Character vs. Technology A struggle between a character and an outside force is an external conflict.
