The David Sinclair Award American Association for Aerosol Research

The award memorializes David Sinclair, one of aerosol science’s great innovators, known for his knowledge, ingenuity and energy. The David Sinclair Award “recognizes sustained excellence in aerosol research and technology by an established scientist still active in his/her career. The individual’s research must have a lasting impact in aerosol science”.

2010 Recipient of the David Sinclair Award Barbara J. Turpin, Professor Dept. of Environ. Sci., Rutgers University Nominated by Prof. Peter H. McMurry Ph. D., Oregon Health and Science University, 1990 Author of more than 85 peer-reviewed journal papers, 5 chapters and 8 invited plenary lectures..... “…. has made substantial contribution to knowledge of the origin and properties of organic aerosol.... Her 1987 Los Angeles Basin measurement provided the first quantitative atmospheric evidence that secondary organic aerosol (SOA) was responsible for a majority of organic particulate matter during photochemical smog episodes....” “…the first to propose that SOA could form through aqueous reaction in clouds, fogs and wet aerosols..….” “Barb is one of the world’s most influential researchers in aqueous-phase atmospheric reactions involving organics….” “… a superb mentor and advisor for her students and postdocs,.. Served her university and her profession (including AAAR) exceptionally well.”
