These question words can help you think of a story. who when how why where

Let’s look at an example.

The title is the name of a story. What is the title of the story? It is The Four Dragons.

The setting tells us when and where the story is set. When and where did the story take place? A long time ago in China.

The characters are the people or animals in the story. Who are the characters in the story? The Long Dragon, the Yellow Dragon, the Black Dragon and the Pearl Dragon.

What problem did the dragons face? The main characters in a story usually face a problem that they need to solve. Problem What problem did the dragons face? People in China had no water to drink and no food to eat.

Actions are what the main characters do to solve the problem. Soluton What did the dragons do? They brought rain to the people.

The ending is the last part of a story. What happened in the end? The dragons turned themselves into China’s four great rivers.
