Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 March, 2018 Abstract A type of WUR discovery frame has been supported in the current specification framework for 11ba [1] R.4.8.A: Define a type of WUR frame as WUR Discovery frame to assist the STAs to discover the BSS. Furthermore, smart scanning using WUR discovery has been added to WUR usage mode document [2] WUR discovery frame includes compressed SSID, PCR operation channel, and AP identifier [3] On the other hand, a format of WUR discovery frame has not been specified yet In this contribution, we propose a specific WUR discovery frame format for smart scanning Taewon Song, LGE John Doe, Some Company

Proposed Methods Option 1: Mandatory information into MAC header Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 March, 2018 Proposed Methods Option 1: Mandatory information into MAC header Frame control (8 bits) + Address (12 bits) + TD control (12 bits) = 32 bits Type (e.g. 4 bits) APID as is (e.g. 12 bits) Use Address field itself PCR channel (e.g. 8 bits) Compressed SSID (e.g. 8 bits) No capability issue for STAs which can not support Frame Body field Collision could be occurred, but it might be trivial Length or misc. field can be used for a part of the mandatory information An example of WUR discovery frame Field order and size are TBD Frame Control Address TD Control Frame Body FCS 8 bits 12 bits 12 bits Type APID PCR Channel Compressed SSID FCS Taewon Song, LGE John Doe, Some Company

Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 March, 2018 Proposed Methods Option 2: Mandatory information into MAC header and Frame body Frame body should be mandatory for WUR discovery frame in this option If so, there would be more room for mandatory information E.g. Lengthened APID or SSID to avoid hash collision Collision probability would be decreased due to the lengthened APID or SSID Length or misc. field can be used for length indication or miscellaneous information rather than a part of the mandatory information of discovery Extra information (in order to support other applications) can be included in Frame body field An example of WUR discovery frame Field order and size are TBD Frame Control Address TD Control Frame Body FCS 8 bits 12 bits 12 bits e.g., 8 octets Type Length/Misc APID PCR Channel Compressed SSID FCS Taewon Song, LGE John Doe, Some Company

Summary We have discussed a specific frame format for WUR discovery March, 2018 Summary We have discussed a specific frame format for WUR discovery To support mandatory things, these need to be squeezed or additional space (i.e., frame body field) is needed Taewon Song, LGE

March, 2018 Straw Poll 1 Which option do you prefer as a WUR frame format for discovery? (Size and location of the information is TBD, Mandatory information includes compressed SSID, PCR operation channel, and AP identifier) Option 1: Put mandatory information into MAC header (in Slide 3) Option 2: Put mandatory information into the field which consist of MAC header and Frame body (in Slide 4) A Taewon Song, LGE
