Routines- Year 1 The children come into school at 8.45 am through the playground door and independently complete a simple task on the carpet. PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays. The children must have FULL P.E. kits in school at all times. Please remove earrings on those mornings. Homework is handed out on a Monday and due in on a Friday. Maths, Literacy and Spellings homework will be set each week. Please make sure your child reads for at least 10 minutes each evening and this can be recorded in their reading record books. In addition each child will be assigned books through bug club. Phonics 9.20-9.40 CLIC, Maths, Break, Literacy, Lunch, Phonics and then foundation subjects.

Independence- Year 1 Please allow your child to walk into the classroom independently. Please ensure that your child’s belongings are clearly named. Remind your child in the morning to put their reading book in their house basket if it needs changing. Books are changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All children in Year One should have a named water bottle in class with them.

Behaviour Policy Positive behaviour is rewarded by certificates, stickers, class treats and silver tokens / house points. The house with the most playtime is rewarded with fifteen minutes extra playtime on Friday. We are following the ‘Golden Rules’. Sanctions will consist of: loss of Golden time, time out in class and lunchtime and break time detentions. Each class has written a ‘Class Charter’ that the children have signed and agreed to follow.

Attendance and Lateness School starts at 8.50am and the register is taken down by 9.00am. Each morning, the children complete an early morning class activity so it is important that your child arrives promptly to school so they are ready to learn. If your child is sick please call the office or leave a message by 8.30am. Children need to be collected at 3.2opm. If your child is being collected by someone different, please inform the school office and teacher in writing.

Curriculum In Literacy, the children will be first looking at poetry and performing a selection of poems about the seaside in class. Later in the term, the class will move on to writing stories. A particular focus this term will be letter formation. The children will be learning the pre-cursive script where the letters begin from the line with lead-ins and finish with an upward flick. Curriculum information may be found on the school website. https://st-annes.reading.sch.uk/

Curriculum Maths- Starts off with writing numbers, accurate counting, adding and subtracting using a variety of equipment and methods. Shape and time will then follow. CLIC – Happens 20 minutes each day. It is a daily sequential programme of mental maths provision with a strong emphasis on learned facts and developing the mental agility to do something with these facts. It develops core skills in one clear method. All are taught in the same way, repeatedly, to embed these fundamental skills. Big Maths highlights how small steps of progress with core numeracy follow on logically from one to the next.

Curriculum RE- We start off looking at the Old Testament Story of Creation. Then, we move onto our next unit, Families and Celebrations. Science- In Science, the children will be learning about Seasonal Changes. Later on in the term, we will look at Materials . Cornerstones Topic- In Year One, our learning project will be ‘Land Ahoy!’. This topic will provide the children with the opportunity to look at seascapes in art and the story of a famous person, Grace Darling. We will also look at maps and identify the continents and oceans.

What to do if you have a concern Speak informally to the class teacher on the play ground (after school is best). Write a note in your child’s yellow reading record book. Make an appointment with the class teacher. Speak through concerns at parents evening. Make an appointment to see the Key Stage leader, Deputy Head, SENCO or Executive Head.
