Hamlet as a play: the story itself, structure as a drama and the specific function of each act– use Shmoop.com to help you review each ACT quickly. Quote identification in Hamlet Examination of a soliloquy in Hamlet for literary devices – see yesterday’s ppt and read them over Literary devices – have you Googled extra examples to view online if needed? “The Hero’s Journey” steps applied to Hamlet and The Kite Runner– Idea: print out the “journey” doc and try to fill it in for Hamlet and The Kite Runner. The essay quotes and a study outline – have you begun to attempt the organization for your essay? Find and copy quotes, fill out the note card with the quotes/Thesis? Where are you at with the ½ green sheet notes for the bubble portion of the test? Make a list of your weak areas – upon what do you need to focus your studying?

Which essay have you chosen? Are you finding your quotes? 1. Is Hamlet’s hesitation to act a result of cowardice, indecision, or prudence/ “wisdom”? Support your answer with a minimum of three quotes from the text and analyze how each quote demonstrates your thesis [ cowardice, indecision, wisdom]. In your conclusion, discuss how understanding Hamlet’s nature 1.) helps viewers to better understand the play and 2.) and what lessons viewers of the play can learn from Hamlet’s example.   2. Hamlet is a “tragic hero” [ Why?! Explain in your intro!] and thus has a “tragic flaw” [explain what this is in your intro!]. Question: If the tragic flaw of King Oedipus is pride, what is the tragic flaw of Prince Hamlet and how does it lead to his downfall? Support your answer with a minimum of three quotes from the text and analyze how each quote shows proof of Hamlet’s tragic flaw. In your conclusion, discuss how understanding Hamlet’s tragic hero’s flaw 1.) helps viewers to better understand the play and 2.) what lessons viewers of the play can learn from Hamlet’s flaw. 3. Hamlet is a “revenge tragedy” [define in your intro] for several father/son pairs. Question: Prove that the play is a revenge tragedy by examining three key instances of revenge. Support your answer with a minimum of three quotes from the text and analyze how each quote shows proof that this play is focused not only on revenge, but that it is a tragedy as well. In your conclusion, discuss how understanding a character’s motive/s for revenge 1.) help viewers to better understand the play and 2.) what lessons viewers of the play can learn from those who seek revenge.
