What will we learn in 3rd grade? Common Core Not just “knowing” information Students will be expected to explain and show their understanding of topics Writing, writing, writing! New ways of thinking about and approaching problem solution

Anchors Aweigh… BOG – Beginning of Grade Reading Assessment RTA – Read to Achieve Portfolio TRC (mCLASS) – Reading comprehension EOG – End of Grade Math and Reading NCENSI – Math benchmarks CogAt

Homework is the responsibility of STUDENTS – NOT parents! Student Expectations Homework is the responsibility of STUDENTS – NOT parents! I have high expectations for all students! Students will give you what you expect of them. Copy homework assignments in agenda Have materials ready each day Turn in homework and signed forms Copy spelling words in agenda Complete work in class Give 100% each day!

Homework Math homework every night Spelling & Reading Spelling Calendar & examples HW passes may be used for only one assignment – and only one can be used each night. *Please make sure your child is underlining or highlighting in the text where answers are found for comprehension questions.

A Word About Attendance… Did you know?? On average, it takes 3 days to make up work from one missed class period. Attendance is essential for your child’s learning. Students will miss important information if they are absent or tardy. Tardy = late arrival or early check out Students are responsible for making up any missed assignments once they return to school. Reading assignments cannot be made up at home.

What are Rubrics? Reading Comprehension Used in class and on homework Rubrics help students understand what is expected. Rubrics help students evaluate their own work.

Weekly Tests Wednesday Multiplication test Topic test/Big test will be announced a head of time and I will send you a message through DoJo

Rhymes and Times This is a multi-sensory program. It addresses all 4 learning styles.. We use manipulatives every day.

Weekly Tests Friday Daily Oral Language (DOL) Spelling Weekly Reading Test *RTA passages are given 3 times weekly. These are very hard to make-up if student is absent!

Progress Monitoring & Interventions Students will participate in reading interventions daily. Interventions are differentiated based on students’ needs and areas of weakness. Students may be assessed throughout the week to monitor their progress with skills from interventions. Progress monitoring assessments are not used for progress report or report card grades.

Report Cards & Progress Reports Grading Scale Grades should not be a surprise! Sign and return envelopes 100-90 A 69-60 D 89-80 B 59 and below F 79-70 C

Class Dojo Reports Communication through Dojo Rewards PBIS Expectations & Programs

Maximizing Instruction Instruction is our number one focus. ANY behaviors that prevent instruction from happening effectively, or that impede the learning of others WILL RESULT in the loss of a Dojo point, a PBIS note, or an Office Referral depending on the severity of the behavior. If your child loses a Dojo point or receives a PBIS note – it was EARNED based on behavior. PLEASE keep all toys at home. Any behavior that impedes or interrupts learning could result in a negative Dojo point or a PBIS note. Please do not allow students to bring any toys or electronics to school. Prohibited items will be confiscated and returned only once a parent picks them up from the teacher.
