Preparing for Kindergarten!
Presentation transcript:

The Early Learning Journey for Children and Families NORTH: the northern direction symbolizes wisdom. On the early learning journey, this direction can be associated with mastery of an activity or concept, including the child’s ability to complete and enjoy math, writing, coloring, and reading in preparation for Kindergarten. **** Early learning builds a strong foundation for lifelong success in school and beyond! EAST: the eastern direction symbolizes the harvest. This is time for “doing” or “getting things done.” At this point in the journey, a child and their family will continue to practice concepts and activities after the home visitor leaves. Home visitors can help the family reinforce early learning by brainstorming ideas for reading, writing, and math in and outside the home. **** Life is full of opportunities to help young children learn! EAST: the eastern direction symbolizes a new beginning. At this point in the journey, the child should be supported by his/her family with positive encouragement and love. Begin early learning activities with easy and fun concepts such as coloring and counting. Home Visitors can point out when a parent or child demonstrates a positive behavior. **** The early learning journey has just begun! SOUTH: the southern direction symbolizes growth. At this point in the journey, parents and home visitors will help the child grow their correct skills with gentle direction – such as the correct way to hold a pencil. Careful, loving attendance to the child’s cues, and consistent repetition of activities will help the child grow even more. **** Growing children love to learn and will develop skills at their own pace!
