Chapter 11 Looking at the Universe By: Mr. Leslie’s Class

Gravity Gravity is the force that pulls bodies towards other bodies or objects. Earth’s gravity pulls you towards Earth at the same time the Sun’s gravity pulls Earth towards it. We don’t go flying towards the Sun because Earth’s pull is stronger. Earth wants to float off into space but the sun will not let it.

The Sun and Solar System The solar system is made up of the Sun, eight planets, and other smaller bodies that orbit the Sun.

Orbit Earth’s path as it travels around the Sun is called its orbit. The moon is a body that moves in an orbit around a planet.
