Introduction Unit Training Trainers and Educators: A practical guide to facilitating learning in the workplace
Today Welcome Introduction to course and facilitators Domestic arrangements Plan
Group introductions Icebreaker Reason for attending Experiences of facilitating learning Ways of working Review of aims and learning outcomes Slide 3 It is crucial to emphasise to the group the importance of group dynamics and group forming particularly when a group is coming together for the first time. It is therefore important to spend time on this first session to enable the group to begin to get to know each other and share why people are attending and what experiences they bring with them. The session plan provides an example of an icebreaker, but you can also use your own materials. Throughout the units as facilitators we will endeavour to role model what will be covered (practice what we preach).
Ways of working Openness, Honesty, Transparency Be mindful of others and respect opinions Active listening and participation One speaking at a time Constructive challenge rather than argumentative Confidentiality Take responsibility – if it’s not working let the facilitator know Have fun! Anything else we’ve missed? Slide 4: This is a starting point. Participants should explore these with the facilitator particularly around the area of confidentiality stressing that learning can be back in the workplace but this should be anonymous and that any areas of risk identified will be addressed via the facilitators The groups should agree the ways of working suit the purpose of the group and make any additions required
