Transportation Changes Please send in a note with child in the morning. An email is not the most reliable notice of change of transportation. Dismissal time is also very busy. To ensure time for changes to be made, please notify the teacher/office prior to 2:30pm.
Lunch Procedures This year we are pleased to offer special tables reserved for parents to have lunch with their child. With the increase in student population, lunch times will be staggered and each class must strictly adhere to the assigned lunch times. Free and Reduced lunch applications are only available online. You may visit the Humble ISD’s Child Nutrition page to apply. https://www.humbleisd.net/domain/4683
Birthdays If you are interested in purchasing ice cream for the whole class from the cafeteria, please contact the cafeteria. If you would like to celebrate in another way, you are welcome to bring individualized, store bought treats which will be delivered to the teacher. The teacher will then determine the best time to pass out the treats. Please contact the teacher in advance. According to HISD policy, invitations are prohibited from being passed out at school. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Parties This year Lakeshore will have a school-wide Winter celebration in December. In February, we will have a Spring Dance in place of our Friendship Party. Though we will not have the traditional Friendship Party, third grade will allot time in the classroom so the students may participate in a friendship card exchange.
Homework Folder Each child will have a purple folder which will be brought to school daily. It will also be used for conduct. Please sign this weekly. We require 30 minutes of nightly reading. We will also have word study three times a week.
Graded Paper Folder A red folder will go home every Thursday. It is to be returned the next day, Friday. In the folder you will receive all of your child's graded papers for the past week. Please return the work with grades to school.
Accelerated Reader Accelerated Reader, or AR, is a computer based system for monitoring comprehension. Students are first assessed to determine an individualized appropriate reading range for the 9 weeks. From that point on, they should check out library books using their reading level. Students may check out books before school or during their library specials rotation. Once they have read the book, they should complete the computer based comprehension quiz to earn points. These quizzes must be taken on a school computer.
Accelerated Reader Goals We will have an AR Goal Sheet for each 9 weeks. The sheet will list several genres that the students are expected to read, then take a quiz. The students must score a 70% or higher for credit on the goal sheet. The students will receive a grade averaged of the completed goal sheet and percentages from the quizzes.
