Presentation transcript:

Introduce yourself to everyone. Bell work – 3 minutes With your group: Introduce yourself to everyone. You need a composition notebook for Monday!

Group challenge – Saving Sam! Sam is stuck on a boat, and can't swim. The boat is capsized. To get to shore, Sam needs to retrieve a life jacket from underneath the boat so that he can float to shore. Sam cannot swim so he needs to stay on the boat for safety. Your groups job is to save Sam by retrieving the life jacket from under the boat and putting it on Sam. Unfortunately, the only tools you can use to accomplish this task are paperclips.

Group challenge – Saving Sam! You cannot touch Sam, the boat, or the life preserver with your bare hands. A gummy worm is used to represent Sam, a gummy life saver is the life preserver and an overturned cup represents the boat.

Whiteboard Before you begin: On your whiteboard, write out your strategy (It’s ok if you change this later). Start with a plan! Each time your plan changes write the new plan down, but do not erase any of your ideas. If Sam falls off the boat you have to start over. You cannot touch Sam, the boat, or the life preserver with your bare hands.
