Brevard Public Schools “Make It Take It” Initiative

Background Technological Literacy is an essential skill for success Brevard Public Schools has established a strategic plan priority for “every Brevard Public School student will be technologically literate by the completion of the 8th grade” Research concludes lack of access to computing at home is a substantial barrier to educational achievement, (PISA studies, 2005.)

Background Our pursuit for 100% technological literacy encompasses several initiatives (CLCs, curriculum development, assessment) Make It Take It is our effort to “level the playing field” for all students Goal for elementary schools to implement Make It Take It for 6th graders with an emphasis on Title 1 schools Community Partners are growing

What is the “Make It Take It” Program? Teaches Internet safety Provides students with the opportunity to learn how to build a computer and are able to take ownership of the computer Provides hands-on learning in a computer lab setting
