Service Coverage Extension Purpose STAtions (STAs) experience high path loss in 60 GHz band, and hence, the short transmission range might be a major drawback. We recognize that new strategies are required of consideration since the existing technologies are not suitable for the 60 GHz band wireless environment, where directional transmission and reception technologies are necessary. More Considerations for Service Coverage Extension It is required to modify the existing technologies, including mesh network, WDS, and ad hoc network. Exclusive relays are useful to extend the service coverage. Stations’ cooperation contributes to the service coverage extension. Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)

Suggested Text for Functional Requirement Document Draft 2.2 Fast Session Transfer Service Coverage Extension In some applications, TGad devices provides to extend their service coverage either by using the different bands (i.e., 60 GHz and 2.4/5GHz) or by using the same 60 GHz band. In the first scenario, fast session transfer provides a seamless transfer of an active session from the 60 GHz band to the 2.4/5GHz band, and vice versa, when the communicating devices both have matching multi-band radios. Fast session transfer allows devices to maintain [link level] connectivity under dynamic conditions.  The devices use very high throughput 60 GHz link(s) when the 60 GHz links are operational and retain the extended range and reliability afforded by the 2.4 or 5 GHz band when the 60 GHz links are not operational. This does not imply that devices must be multi-band. In the second scenario, the service coverage extension is provided by the help of either neighbour devices or dedicated relays when the devices either experience poor link quality (i.e., unreachable transmission ranges) or require higher data rates. TGad devices accomplish the service coverage extension with the two scenarios;  a selected neighbour device cooperates with source device in order to improve transmission throughput and to make a seamless communication; a relay is utilized to transfer data and management frames to a destination device when there exist unavoidable obstables including walls, closed or isolated rooms, and other practical entities between the source and the destination devices. [Req07] The TGad amendment provides a means for fast session transfer between PHYs.The TGad amendment provides a means for service coverage extension. Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)
