Transparency and information management in the Nordic electricity market Nord Pool ASA / Nord Pool Spot AS July 2006

Purpose of transparency Information purpose: Ensure that market participants obtain presice information that may impact market pricing of electricity products Offset the differences of available information between market participants (level playing field) Enables all market participants to make more qualified business decisions and thus enhances market efficiency and liquidity in the transparent organised markets Market surveillance purpose: Supervise that market participants can be confident that the information is correct Monitor that trading and price formation are conducted according to law and regulations

Transparency structure Information that market participants expect to receive in relevant regional or national market (Market Abuse Directive) Information that may impact market pricing of electricity products Transmission Generation Consumption Information has to be relevant to the needs of a given national or regional market (a noticeable impact on prices) Publication in an uniform, understandable and timely manner Transparency needs vs. market abuse possibilities

Information management By an independent body in regards to both the information providers and the information users In the Nordic market all information is reported to Nord Pool for publication on web site (PEX)
