What’s inside your cells?
cytoplasm Cells contain a watery, jelly-like substance called CYTOPLASM. It contains STRUCTURES of the cell.
Structure and function Structures are PARTS of something. Functions are the JOBS each thing does.
Organelles Organelles are the structures (parts) inside cells. Each has a function (job) to do to help keep the cell alive.
Cell membrane Thin barrier around cell Protects the cell and controls what goes in and out of it.
Is the command center of the cell, makes decisions to keep cell alive nucleus Is the command center of the cell, makes decisions to keep cell alive

Cell wall Only in plant cells Gives support and shape to the cell
chloroplast Only in plant cells Makes chlorophyll so plant can do photosynthesis
Independent practice Use a whole page in your notebook. Draw a large PLANT cell (make it somewhat rectangular). Draw and label the following ORGANELLES: Cell membrane Nucleus Nuclear membrane Cell wall Chloroplast Write a short bullet next to each label to state the FUNCTION of that organelle. Color your diagram neatly.
