“Masque of the Red Death”

“Masque of the Red Death” Groups Symbols Assignment Prince Prospero The clock The Red Death The first room The second room The third room The fourth room The fifth room The sixth room The seventh room In your groups you will create a visual for your symbol. Your visual should include: A visual depiction of your symbol A quote describing your symbol The figurative meaning of your symbol A quote that you think best encapsulates the mood of the entire story…this should probably be some sort of imagery What your group believes to be the theme of the story

Poe/Masque Journal In what way is Poe’s own suffering evident in the plot/allegory/theme of “Masque of the Red Death?” Does Poe do this consciously? Explain. OR Remove the clock, the windows, the lighting, & the colored rooms from the story. Is it still the same story? Does it still have the same meaning? Explain.

Critical Thinking Skills Think of words ending in 'gry'. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have read this very carefully, I have already told you what it is. Who makes it, has no need of it. Who buys it, has no use for it. Who uses it can neither see nor feel it. What is it?
