VOLE MOUSE Pocket Gopher SHREW Work on your pellet! Use your
time
WISELY! Pocket Gopher SHREW

Adaptations that make the Barn Owl an excellent predator: 1. Excellent hearing & sight (little to no sense of smell)   a. Asymmetrically placed ears    b. Facial disk: focuses light & sound like a satellite dish c. head can rotate 270 degrees!

Asymmetrically placed ears help pinpoint the location of a sound.

Facial disk: focuses light & sound like a satellite dish

The barn owl’s head can rotate 270 degrees!

It can turn sideways, too!!

2. silent flight (special feathers enable this) The “cut” feathers you see above line the leading edge of their wings and allow them to move through the air without making a sound.

3. large wings compared to body mass enable them to fly very
slowly and low to the ground

4. Sharp claws (talons) for grasping & killing prey
