Possible Subjects Unprotected sex (STD, pregnancy, etc) Drugs Drinking Drinking and Driving Texting and Driving Skipping School Stealing Body Image Anorexia/Bulimia Running Away Teen Pregnancy Bullying/Cyberbullying Suicide Cutting Abusive relationships Parental (like Gerald) Domestic Violence Boyfriend/girlfriend

Assignment from Friday You should have completed steps 1-2: Step 1- Choose a topic (see next slide) Step 2- Choose your mode of writing (at least 3)

Today’s Assignment Step 3- Step 4- Create your characters Choose your setting Decide your plot (beginning, middle, end) Step 4- Choose which mode of writing goes with which part

For Example: Let’s say that my topic is drinking and driving (like Tears of a Tiger) and I have decided to use a newspaper article, a facebook page, and a diary entry. Now I need to decide which mode will allow me to tell my story best. Also, who are my characters? What is the setting? What will happen in my story? After brainstorming: I decide to use my newspaper article to explain the situation or problem (my topic) I will use the facebook page to show people’s reactions to the situation. I will use the diary entry as my main character’s personal reflection of the situation.

Create a sketch (Step 5) Before writing a final copy, be sure to sketch out each mode of writing. Plan what part of the story will be told. Plan out what details will be revealed. Plan out how it will look. Make sure the story is a complete story and that it makes sense. Get your sketch checked off by the teacher.

Peer Editing After completing your sketch and writing a rough draft of each part, pair up with a peer to participate in a peer editing exercise. Each partner will read and review each section of the story: Does it have a beginning, middle, and end? Does the story make sense? Are their details needed to make the story better? Is the situation clear? Do the modes of writing fit the way the story is being presented? Are there mistakes? Make suggestions on how to fix them.

Final Step The final step is rewriting your story into a polished form. This means there are little to no mistakes in grammar or structure. This means you have included pictures, colors, fonts, etc. This means that you have placed each section together (either through staples, string, or binder) You have created a title page which includes the following: Title of your story Your Name Ms. Corley Date Period
