Spectroscopy of Carbocations and C60 Ben McCall, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Our group is using ultrasensitive laser techniques, supersonic expansion plasmas, and fast ion beams to measure the spectra of C60 and complex carbocations such as CH5+. These spectra will elucidate the quantum mechanical structure and dynamics of these molecules, and also will enable searches for these molecules in interstellar space.
