Testing Timeline The decision about when to take SAT and/or ACT is individual, but generally we recommend: Completing Algebra 2 and Geometry prior to testing Students typically score better if they wait until winter of 11th grade due to improving academic skills through course work We recommend taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) in October (only given once per year) as a no-stress practice to try out the test Typically students take the SAT and/or ACT two – three times, as strategy to improve with focused practice in between Be mindful of competitive college admissions that require SAT Subject tests and plan for them in the timeline.
