Definition of Participles ACTING as an Verb Adjective a form of a verb that can act as an adjective

Participial Phrases A participial phrase is a participle enhanced by an adverb/ adverb phrase/ accompanied by a complement. Entire phrase acts as an adjective.

Difference between a Verb and Participle Verb – shows an action, a condition, or the fact that something exists. Participle – acts as an adjective that enhances a noun or pronoun.

In a Diagram Participle is placed directly under the noun or pronoun that it modifies. Participle starts on a slanted line and continues along a horizontal line that extends from the slanted line. Adverbs and adverb phrases that are part of the participial phrase are placed on diagonal lines under the horizontal line.

Example Carefully following the instructions, Karen assembled the model airplane. Karen assembled airplanes the follo w ing instructions model the Carefully The participle is highlighted in pink.
