Study these weather words! Weather Vocabulary Study these weather words!

the blanket of air that surrounds the Earth atmosphere the blanket of air that surrounds the Earth

air mass a large region of the atmosphere where the air has similar properties throughout

barometer - an instrument used to measure air pressure

front - a boundary between air masses with different temperatures

forecast - a prediction about the weather conditions

climate - the average weather pattern of a region over time

humidity - measures how much water vapor is in the air

air pressure the force of air pushing on an area

wind vane - an instrument that shows the direction of the wind

rain gauge - an instrument that measures the amount of rainfall

anemometer an instrument that measures wind speed

warm front a boundary between air masses where a warm air mass slides over a cold air mass

cold front - a boundary between air masses where a cold air mass pushes under a warm air mass

stationary front a boundary between air masses that are not moving

weather changes from day to day
