EQ: What are the important parts of an ecosystem? Warmup: What is the difference between Biotic and Abiotic factors? Are there any special methods you use to read or take notes?

Reading Strategy. Reading with a purpose helps you to learn. SQ3R Reading Strategy. Reading with a purpose helps you to learn.

SQ3R? SQ3R is a technique for fully absorbing written By using SQ3R to actively read a document, you can get the maximum benefit from your reading time. Duh.

What is SQ3R? The acronym SQ3R stands for the five sequential techniques you should use to read non-fiction material (e.g. a textbook)

sURVEY Survey the text: Look at titles, headings and subheadings; pictures, graphs and charts; bold or italicized print; questions in the book

Question Make a note of any questions on the subject that come to mind, or particularly interest you following your survey. These questions can be considered almost as study goals. Turn titles, headings and subheadings into questions

Read Now read the document, taking care to understand all the points that are relevant. This may be a slow process. Don’t forget to answer your questions as you read—and take note of important information that you didn’t predict!

Recite Once you have read, run through it in your mind several times. Isolate the core facts. Practice answering your study questions

Review Review by rereading the document, by expanding your notes, or by discussing the material with classmates/family (when appropriate) Answer the comprehension questions at the end

Notetaking. KISS…Keep it simple stupid. Write down only important info. Paraphrase. Put it in your own words Makes you think about it. Makes it easier to remember Write headings and main ideas List key facts related to main idea Write out vocab definitions in your own words.

Somehow identify what your notes are about. Two good methods Headings Two column notes.

Headings Move to the right as you get more specific Notes Chapter 23 Section 4 Earths Biomes Biomes A Biome is a group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms. Deserts and rainforest Rain Forest Warm and Humid lots of rain. Floor covered in shade Thick vegetation

Put headings/identifiers on the left and info on the right. Two Column Notes Put headings/identifiers on the left and info on the right. Biomes group of ecosystems with similar climates Rain Forest Warm and humid lots of rain floor covered in shade thick vegetation.
