Activation of the Liver X Receptor (LXR) by a synthetic agonist (LXR-623) increases transcription of ABCA1, a major exporter of cholesterol-containing lipoproteins. LXR-623 treatment also limits cholesterol uptake by decreasing levels of the cholesterol import protein LDLR.
