Journey Into the Atom

Atom - smallest unit of an element that still has the properties of that element

Isotope - atoms of the same element that have different masses

Ion - an atom or molecule that has a charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons Cation - a positively charged ion Anion - a negatively charged ion

Activity Time We’re going to Lab 119 Do not disturb lab table with beakers and rainbow lab materials Bring papers, green STAAR sheet, and something to write with

Atomic Theory Timeline Get textbooks from the back of the room Read pg 69-78, 97-103 While reading, identify important scientists that contributed to the development of atomic theory List the scientist, the information about atomic theory that they contributed, and the experiment they used to obtain more information There are 4 main scientists in the development of atomic theory Your timeline can contain more than 4 scientists In addition to the rubric, your timeline must be colorful and reflective of high school level work
