A reading from the Gospel of Luke Jesus said to his disciples: ’Pray not to be put to the test.' Then he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw away, and knelt down and prayed. 'Father,' he said, ‘if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done, not mine.’ Then an angel appeared to him, coming from heaven to give him strength. - Luke 22:40-43

Reflection It is a truth of our faith that there is a spiritual realm made up of spiritual, non-physical beings called angels. Angel is the name of their duty as messengers of God. They constantly behold the face of God and do His work, according to His word . Scripture is full of stories of angels announcing salvation and the plans of God. We see angels present through the entire life of Jesus Christ, particularly during the announcement of His birth, through His passion and death, and they will accompany Him when He comes again at the end of time.

The angels are ever present in the life of the Church and we all benefit from their mysterious and powerful help. Angels are always present to us during the Mass and beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.
