FILM TRAILERS The Making

Preproduction Monday & Tuesday A trailer normally features at least 10 different parts of the film. What would the 10 best parts of your film be to use, in order to give the audience an idea of what to expect and make them want to see it? You will use the yellow storyboard sheet to draw out your ENTIRE trailer. It must be at least 90 seconds and no more than 2 minutes. Include on your storyboard the following: Start with the voice over – what will he/she say? Then think about what we need to see and hear while he/she is talking: Text / graphics / info Scenes from the film Characters Music Sound effects Dialogue from actors EVERY shot that you plan on including in the trailer in as much detail as you can

Preproduction Monday & Tuesday Literary Strategies and Devices Required Plot Development – Effective and well-organized plot structure Characterization – Unique and interesting character development. Conflict – The protagonist will overcome a problem or obstacle (main conflict). Include both internal and extern Plot twist: There will be an unexpected ending to the story. Uses a range of literary strategies and devices to enhance the style and tone of your story.

Production Wednesday-Friday At least 10 different shots in the trailer Must have a beginning, middle and end Must have good acting Have multiple angles

Post Production Monday-Wednesday Graphics Must have a title Must tell when the movie is coming out Must have social media aspects Must have credits Titles are in the safe area Audio Must have a voiceover Must have some dialogue Must have music-Pace and tone must match the music you choose. Audio consistent from start to finish. Proper mix of original audio, music you choose to add, and voiceover

Post Production Monday-Wednesday Video Must have one example of speed ramping (slow or fast) A Second of Black Video at the beginning and end Must use a video filter somewhere in the trailer Clean cuts and/or transitions with no jump cuts, frame flashes, or continuity issues. The final MPEG2 file is exported to Google Docs Folder “Film Trailers” and given the name "first and last name of each group member + "Trailer". Failure to properly export the final file will result in an automatic "F" on this project. Artistic and Content Items Editing "works" as an advertisement. Someone watching the movie trailer should want to see the new movie. Scenes chosen make the point desired The flow of scenes and audio helps the new "story" make sense Even if someone has not seen the original movie they can understand the story presented by the movie trailer. Creativity - The most creative projects will take a known movie andcompletely change the mood, context, and genre of the original.

Presentation Thursday-Friday To the writers: Your task is to create a UNIQUE media production that is imaginative, creative and well organized. How you decide to “pitch” or present this production is up to you and your group. You teacher, who is the producer, is willing to spend their millions on your new idea, but they will only choose your production if all of the objectives have been met, and they deem your media production unique and of quality! Possible Ideas for final Presentation are as follows: Movie Poster Web Page Q & A-Brief explanation of your film and then take questions Your media production WILL NOT be presented in the form of a power point or Prezi format. If you and your group have a different/unique idea for the final presentation, you may present your idea to the producer (YOUR TEACHER) for approval.
