Technology Panel: Open Technology’s Impact on Industrial Automation Travis Cox Co-Director of Sales Engineering / Inductive Automation Hello, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Travis Cox, I’m the Co-Director of Sales Engineering at Inductive Automation, and I’ll be your moderator for today’s session. I’m really excited about our session today because we have a great panel of some of the foremost experts in the industry on the topic of open technology and it’s impact on industrial automation. I’d like to introduce each one of them today, starting with Arlen Nipper.

President / Cirrus Link Solutions Arlen Nipper President / Cirrus Link Solutions Arlen Nipper is the President of Cirrus Link Solutions (Optional bio: You can use their bio if you want) Arlen has over 37 years of experience in the SCADA industry. Over his career, he has worked for Amoco and Koch Oil and then served as the President and CTO of Arcom Control Systems, and Eurotech Inc. Arlen is also the co-inventor of the MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT), a SCADA message transport, in conjunction with IBM, and has over 17 years of experience designing high-performance SCADA systems using MQTT and Message-Oriented Middleware.

Executive Director / Eclipse Foundation Mike Milinkovich Executive Director / Eclipse Foundation Mike Milinkovich is the Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation (Optional bio: You can use their bio if you want) Mike has been involved in the software industry for over thirty years, doing everything from software engineering, to product management to IP licensing. He has been the Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation since 2004. In that role he is responsible for supporting both the Eclipse open-source community and its commercial ecosystem. Prior to joining Eclipse, Mike was a vice president in Oracle’s development group. Other stops along the way include WebGain, The Object People, IBM, Object Technology International (OTI) and Nortel.   Mike sits on the Executive Committee of the Java Community Process (JCP), and is a past member of the Boards of the Open Source Initiative (OSI), and the OpenJDK community.

Andy Stanford-Clark Master Inventor / IBM Andy Stanford-Clark is a Master Inventor for IBM (Optional bio: You can use their bio if you want) Ever since Andy co-invented MQTT with Arnell Nipper in 1999 he’s been working to build smarter homes, communities, and processes using the Internet of Things. During his time at IBM, Andy has more than 40 patents to his name and he currently works on the IBM Watson Internet of Things Platform to help people better understand how to use the IoT to improve their businesses.

Co-Director of Software Engineering / Inductive Automation Colby Clegg Co-Director of Software Engineering / Inductive Automation Colby Clegg is the Co-Director of Software Engineering for Inductive Automation (Optional bio: You can use their bio if you want) Colby has been with Inductive Automation since the company’s formation, and is one of the original designers of the Ignition software.
