Ms. White’s 3rd Grade Class Welcome, Students & Parents! Ms. White’s 3rd Grade Class

Welcome to 3rd grade! Tonight I am going to share with you the exciting things that will be happening in our classroom this year! Before you leave please make sure you have a copy of the handouts to take home and have signed our volunteer pages. If you are able, please take an apple and donate to our classroom!

The Sky is the Limit!! My Philosophy Every Child can learn!! Every Child has unlimited potential!! The Sky is the Limit!!

Class Rules Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Always do your best. One person talks at a time. Listen to Other’s Ideas. KYHFOOTY!

Reading Fun! The Language Arts program at Ridgecrest is Pearson Realize. We will be reading a short story and learning language skills each week with this program. We are also going to play Genre Bingo this year! Each day the students will read a book of their choice and then answer a question about what they read in their journal. As they choose different books in the different genres, they can color in that square on their bingo sheet. Students who get bingo will get a treat. Students who achieve black out by the end of the year will earn a special reward!

Science & Social Studies Fun! Because of the structure of the DLI program, science and social studies can take a little bit of a back seat. However, in my class we will incorporate these two fun content areas into our language arts. We will do writing projects and art projects with social studies. We will read stories, do science experiments and go on field trips that will incorporate science. The students will not miss out on these two favorite subjects!!

Writing Fun! Big Writes – Students will publish 1 big writing piece every couple of weeks!! This will include: a Personal Narrative, a Formal Letter, Friendly Letters, Native American Report, Creative Story, Poems, and an Animal Report. Little Writes – Each student has a writing journal for daily use. I use these journal’s to help progress monitor concepts taught in class. Students will be given little writing assignments that coincide with specific concepts such as sentence structure and word patterns. Free writing assignments will be written in them as well. Pen Palls!! – We will have pen pals this year! We will be writing students in 3rd grade who go to one of the local charter schools! Snoopy’s Journal! – Snoopy will go home with 1 student every weekend and the student will write in Snoopy’s journal about all of the fun things they do together!

Math Fun! We are also doing a program called Kickin It Math!! This is an exciting program where our students will earn ‘belts’ just like in karate as they master their math facts!

Birthdays!! We will have Students of the Week this year! On the week of your child’s birthday (or at least during the same month – with the exception of summer birthdays which will be worked in throughout the year), your child will become our Student of the Week! A note will go home informing you that your child will be student of the week the following week. As our Student of the Week your child will get to: Bring a poster with pictures or drawings that tell all about themselves Have the class sing happy birthday to them Receive a birthday card and small gift from the class Get to eat lunch with Ms. White and/or Mrs. Zheng a friend You do not need to send a treat but I will leave that up to you and your student

Scholar Dollars!! Paychecks Fines Students are paid every Friday! They earn $5 for each of the following Positive behavior Completed Homework ($10) Class Job Homeowner Responsibility Lost or missing work = $5 Lost Supplies = $5 Late from recess = $10 Broken or damaged supplies = $10

Scholar Dollar Value Students can use their Scholar Dollars to purchase new supplies or materials if lost or damaged. Also, they will use them to purchase items in our class store held once a month!

Class DoJo http://www.classdojo.com/ School wide PBIS precision direction program will reinforce school rules and behavior expectations.

Homework Reading Math For additional math practice! REFLEX!! Ms. Zheng will assign the math homework sheets that are due each week. Students need to read 20 minutes each night!* If students consistently do not finish classwork, this work will be sent home to be completed and returned! Week 6 of each Reading Unit is a review week. There will be additional homework sheets sent home these weeks to help prepare for Unit Tests!!

Class Communication http://ridgecrest3.weebly.com/ bonnie.white2@canyonsdistrict.org Weekly Newsletters!! liping.zheng@canyonsdistrict.org Homework Folders!

Let’s Have a Great Year! Ready, Set, Go!!!!
