Heat Transfer

Types of Heat Transfer Heat is transferred in the mantle through radiation, conduction and convection Radiation is the movement or transfer of heat through empty space (like warming by a fire) Conduction is the transfer of heat by direct contact. (touching a hot mug) Convection is heat transferred by the movement of heated liquid or air (roasting marshmallows over a fire)

Convection Currents Hot magma in the Earth moves toward the surface, cools, then sinks again. Creates convection currents beneath the plates that cause the plates to move.

Question... How is a convection current formed?

Discussion What other science units would you find convection currents?
