Chi Square Test for Independence Your turn!
Set-Up – get the data Go to this website (if having trouble clicking the link, copy and paste this address into Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox: http://www.nctm.org/resources/content.aspx?id=32702) Click on “downloadable suite” Choose “Keep” if the download shows in the bottom tab. Choose “Run”
Getting the data FROM CORE MATH TOOLS Click on “Data Analysis” Choose the “Data” Tab Choose “BiVariate Data” meaning Two variable data Choose “Categorical Data” Choose your data set. (write this on the board, so no other group will use the same data set)
TASK You and your group are going to run a Chi-Square formal test for independence at a 5% significance level. You will create a Powerpoint, Prezi, or another digital presentation source and e-mail it to sprofio-miller@wcpss.net by the end of class on Thursday, October 23rd. See next slide details on group assignment.
Group work assignment (20 points) Once you have data, create a powerpoint, Prezi, etc. including the following: The description of the data (get from Core Math Tools) and the data (get from Core Math Tools) The null and alternate hypotheses The expected values State if the sample size is large enough and how you know State the significance level The degrees of freedom State the critical value using the table of values. Calculate the Chi-Squared statistic (show the first step with a + … = ) State your conclusion with mathematical support (if the test rejects or does not reject and what does that conclude). Use your p-value to further justify the test to reject or not reject (each part above will be given 1 pt for including, and 1 pt for accuracy)
