The Modern Transit Partnership

MTP History Formed in 1997 by the CAT Board of Directors as a 501(c)(3) non-profit advocacy and education organization, the MTP is governed by a volunteer board consisting of business and community leaders from throughout south central Pennsylvania Since its inception, MTP has received funding from: Cumberland County Dauphin County Lancaster County Federal HUD Grants State Grants Special Events Private Contributions

MTP Adopts New Vision & Mission Statements in 2011 To be the leading advocate, facilitator, promoter and visionary for regional, integrated, multi-modal transit in south central Pennsylvania Mission: The Modern Transit Partnership’s mission is to support and promote affordable and sustainable integrated, multi-modal public transportation solutions that encourage regional economic development, improve quality of life and increase connections among the communities of south central Pennsylvania.

Transit Growth in the Region Transit ridership continues to grow throughout south central Pennsylvania (2005-2011): CAT – average increase of 5.3% per year Amtrak Keystone Corridor (Harrisburg boardings & alightings) – average increase of 7.8% per year

Role of MTP in the Region Act as facilitator, bringing the region’s business community together with transit agencies to enhance collaboration and cooperation, thereby providing optimum multi-modal transit service throughout south central Pennsylvania Be a leading advocate for public transportation with the region’s state and federal elected officials

MTP Promoting Transit Options Complete the Operations Plan Study in the Harrisburg/Hershey/Lebanon corridor, which will improve mobility in the corridor Conduct – in partnership with Commuter Services of PA – employer transit workshops throughout the region to increase transit usage, awareness and operations

MTP’s Support of Others Work closely with PennDOT to assess parking needs at each of the five stations in the Keystone Corridor, in order to maximize the investments already made, and create a climate for multi-modal transportation and infrastructure revitalization Play a leadership role with PennDOT in the Regional Transit Consolidation Study, by helping to facilitate its recommendations and study outcomes

MTP’s Support of Others Play a role in facilitating further investment in the CREDC/PennDOT projects at the Harrisburg Transportation Center and in the Cameron/ Mulberry/State Streets region, as part of a longer term vision for the redevelopment of the “main line” industrial corridor – Highspire to Rockville

MTP Special Events Fireworks Express! Transit Breakfast Has raised over $87,000 in the 10-year life of the event Transit Breakfast Honors community and government leaders for their contributions to transportation in the region Has raised over $74,000 in the six years the event has been held
