Department of Geology and Geological Engineering Van Tuyl Lecture Series- Spring 2016 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Berthoud Hall Room 241    Thursday, March 3, 2016 Chris Paola University of Minnesota   “Not Fake Anything: Learning from Experiments in Stratigraphy” Abstract: Despite differences in length and time scales, and material properties, that are too extreme to overcome with classical scaling techniques, one can learn a surprising amount from unscaled stratigraphic and geomorphic experiments. We will look at findings from experiments on how subsurface deformation steers surface channels, and how waves and tides shape delta morphology, and also how, using dimensionless numbers, these can be applied to the field.
