Exponents and Polynomials Chapter 4 Exponents and Polynomials
Section 4.1 Exponents
The Product Rule: when multiplying powers with LIKE bases, ADD their exponents.
The Quotient Rule: when dividing powers with LIKE bases, subtract their exponents.
The Zero Exponent Rule: anything raised to the zero power is one.
The Power Rule: to raise a power to a power, multiply their exponents.
The Power of a Product Rule: When a product is raised to a power, distribute the exponent to each factor inside the parentheses.
The Power of a Quotient Rule: When a quotient is raised to a power, distribute the exponent to both the numerator and the denominator.
The Expanded Power Rule: every factor inside the parentheses is raised to the power outside the parentheses.
