Origins Of Revolutionary Thought French Revolution Lecture #1

Looking at the philosophies that created the background thought for the French Revolution

The background philosophies that were the basis for revolutionary thought were based upon the works of the following thinkers: Thomas Hobbes; John Locke; Voltaire and Jean Jacques Rousseau

Task for Today. In groups of 2 or 3 you are responsible for choosing a philosopher and answering the following question. "According to their philosophy, what should the role of government be?" You must also determine why they were important to revolutionary thought.

Process. You will have 20 minutes in your group to work and create a 1/2 page summary of your philosopher. In 20 minutes, you will share your findings with members of the other philosophers and exchange all information!
