Where is it located? It is located off the coast of Chile Approximately 2,180 miles from Chile
Society The People of Easter Island refer to themselves as Rapanui and their island as Rapa Nui They are very superstitious/ their religon is more based on experiences more so than faith They got rid of a good amount of their natural environment for construction/building, which caused a lot of wars and their culture to collapse
Population Growth The Polynesian settlers came to the island between 800 to 900 A.D. It was estimated that their population was over 15,000
Before and after (resources) At first it was good, the population was growing slowly = No Struggle with resources Then the island became deforested, and the culture collapsed
Before and after (Economy) They use to go out to sea and fish for Porpoises and other sea animals = good trade for tools and clothing After the trees were all gone, they could no longer build canoes to go out to sea.
Before and after (social) They use to highly organized, most resources were scattered across the island Some say that they engaged in cannibalism
