South Korean Fire

South Korea's deadliest fire in almost a decade has ripped through a hospital in the city of Miryang, killing at least 37 people and injuring more than 100. The fire comes less than a month after a similar tragedy left 29 dead in another South Korean city, raising concerns over lax safety standards in the country. Officials said they were still investigating the cause of Friday's fire, which is believed to have started around 7:20 a.m. local time in the emergency room on the first floor of the 98-bed Sejong Hospital. Rescue services took three hours to completely extinguish the flames. The recent spate of deadly fires in South Korea has led to questions over the government's ability to enforce sufficient safety measures. After Friday's fire, South Korean President Moon Jae-in called an emergency staff meeting. In a statement, Moon promised to quickly identify the cause of the fire in order "to prevent the recurrence of the fire in the future."

In Other News The teenager accused of opening fire inside a Kentucky high school, killing two classmates and wounding 18 others, will be charged as an adult, a prosecutor said Wednesday. “The plan is to certify him as an adult,” said Assistant County Attorney Jason Darnall, who is prosecuting the case. But Darnall did not yet name the suspect, who is 15 and still considered a juvenile. President Trump's willing to give 1.8 million undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship. The compromise would be for about $25 billion to build his long-promised border wall. The immigration framework would help DACA-eligible people become citizens. Sudanese migrants in Libya were videoed being whipped and tortured and forced to beg their families for money. Relatives of these men shared the disturbing video clips on social media in a desperate bid to get them some help. Libyan special forces tracked down the location where the men were being held and raided it, freeing eight hostages and arresting four kidnappers. These latest images of abuse come after last year it was revealed migrants were being sold at slave auctions in Libya, prompting worldwide outrage and investigations. The 2018 Baseball Hall of Fame class was announced Wednesday, with Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Alan Trammell, and Jack Morris taking their places in Cooperstown, New York.
