Finish the Simulation… We will play the simulation for 10-15 more minutes. Not everyone will become a civilization & there may be no ‘winner’ Remember that this is just a simulation and you are not actually trying to take each other over…

Debrief In your groups, discuss and write down… A. What went well for your village? Why did it go well? B. What did not go well for your village? Why? C. What are the general ‘parts’ of a civilization? What makes a civilization different than a village?

Process of Development What was the process of development from villages to Civilizations? Villages  Developed Advanced Agriculture  Surplus  More people spend time doing other things  Specialization  Larger Populations and New Technologies  More people to focus on specialization  development of religion, government, writing, advanced weaponry, art, social hierarchy, etc.  more people move to large population centers (cities), usually with walls  Civilization!

Debrief – Homework Individually, chose one of the following options… A. Write a history of what happened in your village. Highlight the major events (battles, gaining benefits, merging with other villages, etc.) The history should be ‘factual’ (what happened in your villages specific story), but if necessary, you may embellish the facts to make the story more creative B. Make an illustrated timeline of the events of your village. Highlight major events that changed your village for better or for worse. Include years (timeline should be up to 10 years for each village) and pictures to illustrate the major events.
