Postulates of Schrödinger's Wave Mechanics

In the first lecture we talked about how the rules governing a given form of mechanics could be stated in terms of a set of postulates describing How to specify the State The Nature of Observables The Measurement Process Evolution We demonstrated this for several classical forms of mechanics, and asserted that there were several features of Quantum Mechanics that were very different from their classical counterparts. The five essential new aspects of Quantum Mechanics we identified as: The superposition principle Eigenstates and eigenvalues The principle of spectral decomposition Probabilities as the squared magnitude of amplitudes, and Collapse of the dynamical state during measurement

The five essential new aspects of Quantum Mechanics we identified as: The superposition principle Eigenstates and eigenvalues The principle of spectral decomposition Probabilities as the squared magnitude of amplitudes, and Collapse of the dynamical state during measurement

The goal of this lecture is to see how these ideas were incorporated in the first essentially correct version of Quantum Mechanics, which was developed by Schrödinger. Thus, as we did for some of the different forms of classical mechanics, in this lecture we want to clearly, and concisely state: The Postulates of Schrödinger’s wave mechanics for a single spinless particle
