WHAT? Partnership between Johnson County Community Colleges and local high schools Approved high school classes have a college credit option

Why? You get to start earning college credits early! These credits may help you graduate from college early. You’re doing the work of a college class, why not get the credit for it? Money savings College Now tuition= $93 per credit hour! KU tuition= $319.30 per credit hour (2016-2017) KSU tuition= $300.40 per credit hour (2016-2017) (plus you don’t have to pay for a text book)

Who? All sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to earn college credit for College Now courses. Freshmen on Gifted IEPs can also take College Now courses if they meet the criteria to qualify for the regular curricula of the college. Gifted freshmen can show that criteria have been met by earning a 19 on the English portion of the ACT and a 23 on the math portion of the ACT. If the student hasn’t taken the ACT, he/she can take the ACCUPLACER test at JCCC’s Testing Center- placing into Comp I and Intermediate Algebra meets the required criteria.

Accommodations Students with an IEP, 504 or SIP that would like to sign up for the college credit option should contact the Access Services Office at JCCC to inquire about accommodations. http://www.jccc.edu/student-resources/tutors- accessibility/access- services/index.html#.VafComUo4rI 913-469-3521 Only JCCC approved accommodations may be provided for students that sign up for college credit for a College Now course.

HOW?- Steps www.jccc.edu/collegenow 1. Apply to JCCC. 2. Submit your ACT scores or take the ACCUPLACER test (if required.) 3. After JCCC emails your student ID number to you, enroll in the class and pay the tuition online.

Yearlong vs fall/spring Schedules Yearlong Schedule Yearlong courses at OSHS Student enrolls and pays just one time for the year- Fall (Aug/Sept) Fall/Spring Schedule Semester long courses at OSHS OR a yearlong class at OSHS that counts as 2 classes at JCCC. Students have the opportunity to enroll and pay for one class in the Fall (Aug/Sept) and enroll and pay for a 2nd class in the Spring (Jan/Feb)

Additional info The college you hope to attend after graduation makes the decision about what does and doesn’t transfer. Talk to them now! JCCC deadlines are firm. They really won’t make any exceptions. Get everything done on time! If you need to withdraw from your course(s) for any reason, you must do so at your high school AND at Johnson County Community College. Dropping the course only at the high school will result in a failing grade at JCCC. JCCC Grant and A.L.L. Scholarship- applications in the guidance office. The due date for these is the same as the enrollment deadline, but turn it in earlier for a better chance of receiving funds. Be sure to enroll in your desired classes in order to be considered for the Financial Aid.
