Workshop #1 Themes and Highlights At the workshop: 45+ people attended Presentations from neighborhood organizations, business associations, University of Minnesota, and City of Minneapolis At least 18 neighborhood, campus, and city plans already exist that inform the direction for the University District
Workshop #1 Themes and Highlights “Big Picture” trends and influences: 25% more residents projected for the District by 2030 (more growth than for City as a whole) 31% more households and 15% more jobs U student enrollment expected to remain stable
Workshop #1 Themes and Highlights More “Big Picture” trends and influences: Low rates of foreclosure; increasing property values Very low vacancy rate; continued private sector development interest Major infrastructure projects planned that may further attract development
Workshop #1 Themes and Highlights Themes from community presentations: Single family residential “core” to be strengthened Deep pride in historic buildings, historic and diverse character, and long-standing community institutions; great mix of history with youthful energy
