Working with your institution Dr Rebecca Jones, Public Engagement Coordinator

About me 2012 One of 12 institutions 2014 2015 2016

When to get your institution involved? NOW: 5+ months to go Create some NOISE about your involvement in the exhibition

What can we offer you? Advice and support Funding Training Resources Tested suppliers Promotion and marketing Opportunities to test your exhibit Opportunities to re-use your exhibit Funding: IN KIND support, borrowing items, equipment. Rolls Royce exhibit 2015 was paid for by RR as sponsor and industry partner. Testing: Rolls Royce exhibit tested at Cambridge Science Festival and Cambridge Science Centre. Local schools, departmental open days etc.

What do you get out of it? As an exhibitor: Prestige Raise the profile of your research Contacts and networking Communication skills Insight into public perceptions and chance for self reflection Resources to reuse As an institution: Awareness raising and prestige Societal impact (REF, funders) Trained and informed researchers Future pool of public engagement talent and expertise Profile of research (peers, public, funders) Contacts and networking (amongst other exhibitors as well as soirees) Unlike any other event, more press and government/industry attention.

Who to contact Public Engagement Communications and Press Marketing and Public Relations Research Strategy and Impact Contact staff within: Departments, Faculties, Schools, Centres, Institutes, central Institution, as well as partner organisations, funders Also inform: FRS from your instituion

Top tips Choose a lead exhibitor to manage the project Think strategically about who you invite to the evening soirees Vice-Chancellors and FRS are invited automatically Consider how/when you will reuse your exhibit during the planning stages Come with an open mind to learn something and take inspiration back into your research Enjoy the experience, you have worked hard to get selected 1. Jenny great example of lead exhibitor. 2. Making sure FRS you know are aware you are there. CREATE NOISE. 3. Watch out for design and build – don’t become reliant on them rebuilding it for you.
