2 TRUTHS AND A LIE which are true? Apples were first grown in central Asia, in present-day Kazakhstan. There are more than 2,500 different varieties of edible apples in the world! In Geneva, New York there is a “library of apples” with all of these different varieties. In Greek mythology, it was believed that eating golden apples would make a person immortal. Kazakhstan

THEY’RE ALL TRUE!

Now it's time... for Montana Apple Trivia! Are YOU ready for this?

An apple a day, keeps the doctor away! Have you ever heard this saying? There is some truth to it! FUN FACT: Most of the nutrients in an apple are located in or just below the skin, so it’s healthier to eat the skin! You should try to make half your plate fruits and vegetables at every meal.

Question #3: In what season do you harvest apples in Montana? Montana Apple Trivia Question #3: In what season do you harvest apples in Montana?

Join the Crunch! The apples you are eating today were grown in Corvallis, MT in the Bitterroot Valley. That is about 230 miles from the Gallatin Valley.  If that seems far away, think again—most of the apples you see in the lunch line or at the grocery store are grown in Washington state (at least 500 miles away) or even as far away as New Zealand (7518 miles away)! Montana grown apples will be served all fall on the fresh fruit and veggie bar at your school!

Let’s get to know our farmers! Swanson's Mountain View Apple Orchard (1.5 minute video produced by NBC Montana) http://www.nbcmontana.com/news/news-video/montanas-largest-apple-producer-begins-harvest-1/624730050

By crunching into this apple, you are helping to celebrate the history of apples in Montana, along with the people who grow them! Enjoy!
