Aspects to consider in observing and planning curriculum for child Layer 3 Rings Copyright       Karen M Barnes 2018

Aspects to consider in observing and planning curriculum for child When we observe and plan we think about the many different aspects that relate to the curriculum.  The rings that form layer 3  helps to remind us what to think holistically. Copyright       Karen M Barnes 2018

Child Centred Child centred is The purpose of why you do what you do within the curriculum  Representative of  all children as individuals and groups Maximising opportunities for each child Through ensuring the curriculum supports A child focused approach Children involved in leading the curriculum Children making their own choices and decisions All children’s knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests being reflected within the curriculum Copyright      Karen M Barnes 2018

Relationships Relationships considers relationships between different stakeholders and with the child/ren; Staff - Educators, cook, administration, approved providers etc. Family – parents/guardians, siblings, grandparents, significant others Peers –  other children Community – shop keepers, emergency services, doctor and speech pathologist to name a few Allowing all stakeholders to be informed about the curriculum and be able to contribute to the curriculum through building of partnerships.   Copyright       Karen M Barnes 2018

Mandates Mandates means the minimum statutory requirements and ethical requirements. The compliance and quality supporting legislation and documents. For e.g. Early Childhood Education and Care National Law and Regulations Code of Ethics – Early Childhood Australia Other related laws and regulations United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Theory and Research Philosophy – Personal and Service Service Context Policies and Procedures Frameworks – The 8 way Framework of Aboriginal Pedagogy, National Frameworks such as EYLF etc. Copyright       Karen M Barnes 2018

Environment External factors that support children in the curriculum include   The physical environment Teaching strategies Practices and Principles What exists within this environment includes Routines Set up Group times Experiences Transitions Resources Copyright       Karen M Barnes 2018

Data Quality vs Quantity The data ring aims to reduce the quantity of paperwork and increase quality.  Documenting created wisely and purposefully.  When services are assessed the Authorised Officer uses sight, observe and discussion. Assessment is not exclusive of written documentation.  Think holistically about documentation as what is written and talked about with other stakeholders  what you see occurring within the environment such as the experiences and interactions. It takes a village to raise a child Word Associations of Layer 3 Going deeper into the core and each ring.  It takes a village to raise a child African proverb  Consider each word a vital part of the village. Do all staff understand and consider all of the village in the curriculum?  Copyright      Karen M Barnes 2018
