What Must Be on the Map! Each state MUST have its full name written out inside the state boundaries, or with a line pointing to the state. INCLUDE the two letter postal I.D. for each state under the name in (parentheses) Each map MUST have a key or legend and a compass The capitol of each state, and the U.S. capitol should be CLEARLY marked and included on key or legend Identify ALL time zones and COLOR CODE the states. Include this color code on your key or legend. Finally, label any oceans and surrounding countries visible on the map.
