Language Targets for Med-el Rehab Unit #7 Expressive Language Target: Produce sentences using conjunctions and complex grammar Receptive Language/Listening Target: Follow 3 step directions using complex grammar Date Directions Receptive/ Following Expressive/ Production of Language Target Right Wrong 1. Before you touch your knee, touch your hand then stomach. 2. If I am your mother, then touch your ankle, forehead and hand. 3. After I blink my eyes, touch your nose, hair then stomach. 4. Touch both elbows and one eye or touch your eyebrows and both ankles. 5. When I smile, touch your nose, your hand then your shins. 6. Touch one ankle and one shin until I turn around. 7. If you like recess, touch your shoulders, mouth then stomach. 8. Touch your shins, ears and mouth before you clap. 9. While I yawn, touch your stomach, foot and then your hair. 10. Touch one eyebrow and your back or touch both elbows then both ears.

I numbered the back of the body pictures to go with the sentences. The adult selects the first card and gives the direction. Note any strategies that are used to facilitate the student’s response such as repetition, acoustic highlighting, chunking, etc. When it is the student’s turn, she will select a card and give the direction to the adult. If she needs support to formulate the sentence, the adult may set out some conjunction choices (below) for the student to use. Even more support would be to give the student an appropriate conjunction to use. The space on the data sheet under Expressive Language is larger to allow the student’s response to be written out. If the student is working on one conjunction as a language target, the sentences can be rewritten to all using the same target. This will provide the student with lots of input of the target and multiple chances to use it in a structured situation. You can modify the directions page to make the sentences shorter or to use specific language targets. or after before if so unless until when either/or once since while
