Table Share: Message and Feature At your table, review the sonnet you worked on together. Pick one of your literary features that supports the message of your sonnet and prepare to explain it to the class.

Table Share: Revising the Message Now that you have studied the literary features, make revise the message of your sonnet. Prepare to share to the class.

Notes: Rhythm Iambic: Even number of syllables. Odd-numbered syllables are unstressed, even are stressed “I GRANT I NEver SAW a GODdess GO,” 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Pentameter: 10 syllables.

Notes: Rhyme Sonnets are ALWAYS 14 lines. Rhyme pattern: abab cdcd efef gg Exception: Sometimes words are spelled the same, but don’t rhyme in Modern English GG: The last couplet makes the point of the poem.

Appreciating Sonnets Step 1: Read the sonnet. Step 2: Decide what the overall message of the sonnet is. Step 3: Re-read the sonnet. Highlight different literary features using different colors (or underline, circle, box…) Step 4: Pick 3 literary features, and describe how they add to the message. Step 5: Refine your message based on you analysis.

Homework - Due February 22nd Finish appreciating all 4 sonnets. On Monday, you will be writing a sonnet. Brainstorm FIVE (5) different ideas for your sonnet. Ideas must include both your topic, your MESSAGE for the topic, and some rhyming pairs that go with that topic.
