Two-Step Equations CA 5.0

Objective: To Solve Two-Step Variable Equations

When solving equations think ORDER OF OPERATIONS in reverse! Undo Addition or Subtraction first! Then undo Multiplication or Division.

STEPS REASON Given Addition Axiom of Equality Simplify Multiplication Axiom of Equality Simplify

Solve. 1) 5x + 4 = 39 3) 7 - x = 12 -4 -4 -7 -7 5x = 35 (-1) - x = 5 (-1) x = -5 x = 7 2) 4) +4 +4 -6 -6 (3) (3) (-5) (-5) x = 18 -35 = x

What about those nasty fractions? When you have an EQUATION you can eliminate fractions by multiplying EVERYTHING by the LCD!
